Ditching Maisie (the van) at a parking lot in North Melbourne, I headed straight into the heart of the city to stay at a hostel for a change of pace. Luckily, the weather in Melbourne proper was beautiful – 80 degrees and sunny, not a drop of rain in sight. I spent the first night having a Guinness with some Irish folk from the hostel.

Day two I did a proper walk of the city in true Brian fashion. Starting at Albert Park, home to the Australian F1 GP, I walked the pit lanes and had a coffee on the iconic lake. The top of Albert park lead me into the botanical gardens, and then eventually to china town / the CBD. A few bookstores, dumping houses, beers, and 12 miles later, I had had enough adventure. I popped into an Indian restaurant for a comfort curry and naan before calling it a night.

I spent the rest of my time in Melbourne getting some chores finished, and doing some more walking around the city.

A lovely city, but after a few days I was very happy and ready to hit the road again towards the Great Ocean Road!
